Founded in 1910, University Settlement is the oldest community-based, multi-service agency in downtown Toronto, serving thousands of individuals and families annually. Strategically located at the intersection of several diverse neighbourhoods, it offers accessible and inclusive programs in settlement, education, recreation, arts, health, and social services. The organization is home to the oldest community music school in Toronto and operates a fully accessible, multi-purpose facility with a gym, pool, computer lab, and activity rooms. Its Seniors Program is a key focus, offering free, year-round programs like Tai Chi, yoga, tech support, arts & crafts, and multilingual workshops to support healthy aging and reduce isolation. University Settlement also provides childcare, language training, and employment services, with fees for some programs significantly lower than private providers. Subsidies between 30% and 70% are available for families in need. Free financial and employment support services are offered to low-income individuals, including citizens, newcomers, and refugee claimants. Rooted in equity, diversity, and inclusion, University Settlement is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves through social, cultural, recreational, and educational engagement.
